The Ogbonnaya Onu’s family, accompanied by relations, friends, the Uburu community, and parishioners, in a solemn Thanksgiving Mass held in honour and loving memory of their father, husband and grandfather, the late His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, CON, marking one year since his internment.
The Mass which held on Sunday, 9th November 2025, at CKC Parish, Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, was a moment of collective reflection and gratitude to God for the exemplary life of Sir Dr. Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu. Dr. Onu was a fine statesman, party leader, political strategist, brilliant scholar, outstanding intellectual, public speaker, teacher, lecturer, inventor, researcher, consultant, engineer, youth mobilizer, accomplished administrator, prolific author and poet, a man of great ideas as well as a distinguished man of exceptional principle, integrity, discipline and exemplary character, and a beloved son of Uburu. He served the nation tirelessly as the first Executive Governor of Abia State. He was also nominated as All Peoples Party (APP) Presidential Candidate, former Chairman and National Leader of defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), a former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, and a foundational figure in Nigerian politics.
The Mass offered an opportunity for many whose lives he touched, as they joined his biological, political families, the church and the good people of Uburu community in giving thanks for his legacy of service, humility, and unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria.
The Onu family expresses their profound gratitude for the overwhelming support and prayers received from across the nation and beyond during this period of grief and reflection. While praying that his gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace. Amen.
